Many people who have known me well throughout my life have called me stubborn and hard-headed. For most of my life, I did not know what they were talking about or why they would say that about me. If they would just listen to me and where I am coming from we could all find peace. However, in my state of trauma blindness, I could not hear what others were saying. What they call stubbornness came from a place of intense fear. Walking around in a state of Complex Trauma caused me to feel and believe that everyone is out to get me, everyone wants to hurt me and make me feel stupid and insignificant. So, yeah, most of my life I was walking around with knives out, ready to defend myself against anyone who would want to come against me. How could I let down my guard and trust anyone when my own father terrorized my entire childhood and my mother did next to nothing to protect me? It wasn't until I was living in a community situation with many people who over time that I began to trust and let down some of my walls. This was my own 2 of Cups experience. They allowed me to find peace within, be okay with constructive criticism, and be open to listening to and accepting difficult things about myself.
