Today's Journal Entry:
When I was about 22 years old I found my life in a pretty bad place and needed to stop and figure things out. At this time I had spent my adult life running from an unknown perceived danger. A friend offered me an opportunity to live on her lakeside abandoned mobile home that her parents lived in before they died. It was located in the peaceful pine forest of east Texas. With me were my two dogs. Every day I walked with my dogs out to the lake's edge, sat on the boat dock overlooking the lake, and listened to the sounds. I heard the water slapping against the wooden dock, the fish jumping, the birds singing their song, and the distant humming sounds of boat motors. I would just sit on the dock and listen. This daily practice returned me to peace. I am not much of a person to do formal meditation but rather moments of solitude and self-reflection found in my daily life. Growing vegetables, sitting in the morning sun with my cup of coffee, playing my brass bowls or connecting with the night stars are all ways in which I might return to my inner peace.
